The Westhope/Newburg Sioux won against the Harvey Hornets on Thursday with 47 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. Westhope/Newburg skirted past Harvey 47-45. The victory was familiar territory for Westhope/Newburg who now have three in a row.
Westhope/Newburg's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kimberly Tabarez, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. Tabarez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Laken Lee, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Harvey's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rachel Neumiller, who scored 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylee Keller, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals.
Westhope/Newburg's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-11. As for Harvey, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11-1 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westhope/Newburg will face off against Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Dakota (Mohall/Lansford/Sherwood is ranked 67th, while Westhope/Newburg is ranked 92nd). Harvey will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Carrington at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
