Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon hadn't done well against Watkins Memorial recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Yellowjackets blew past the Warriors 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Yellowjackets, who have now won 17 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Dublin Scioto, Mt. Vernon also got a great game from a two-way player: Jocelyn Scarbury. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Scarbury was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hailey Rudrick, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brooke Dovenbarger, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Watkins Memorial only posted a batting average of .071.
Dublin Scioto's record is now 18-8. As for Mt. Vernon, their record now sits at 25-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dublin Scioto has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .446. However, it's not like Mt. Vernon struggles in that department as they've averaged .510. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
