Baseball Game Preview: C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons vs. West Johnston Wildcats

The C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons are taking a road trip to take on the West Johnston Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. C.B. Aycock will be strutting in after a win while West Johnston will be coming in after a defeat.

C.B. Aycock took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Southern Wayne, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Golden Falcons skirted past the Saints 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Golden Falcons have posted against the Saints since May 4, 2021.

Janeson Steele was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caden Cox, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, West Johnston unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of South Johnston by a score of 4-3. Wildcats fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Trojans since on Tuesday.

The win made it two in a row for C.B. Aycock and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for West Johnston, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 10-4.

C.B. Aycock might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from West Johnston when the teams last played last Tuesday. Can the Golden Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
