Basketball Recap: Mitchell Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Elly Paetow and Reese Sauer

If Mitchell was feeling good fresh off their 38-15 takedown of Alliance last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mitchell Tigers took a hard 51-33 fall against the Lingle-Fort Laramie Doggers on Thursday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Doggers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2016.

Mitchell's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Reese Sauer, who went 5 of 6 en route to 10 points and seven rebounds, and Elly Paetow, who posted five points and five rebounds. Those ten points gave Sauer a new career-high.

Jordynn Speckner had an outrageously good game for Lingle-Fort Laramie as she put up eight points along with eight steals and six boards. Speckner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Skyla Wunder, who went 6 of 13 on her way to 14 points and seven steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mitchell fell to 2-1.

Coincidentally, Mitchell and Lingle-Fort Laramie will both be playing Wheatland the next time they take the court. Lingle-Fort Laramie will head out to face Wheatland at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, while Mitchell will play them later in the day, at 4:00 p.m.
