Chatham Charter has gone a perfect 10-0 against River Mill recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Knights will host the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Chatham Charter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Chatham Charter came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Cedar Ridge, falling 11-3.
Zach Cartrette put in work no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Cartrette wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jace Young, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for River Mill, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They never let Central Carolina Academy get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory on Thursday. Considering the Jaguars have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Chatham Charter, River Mill also got a great game from a two-way player: Gavin Loy. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave Loy a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. He is becoming a predictor of River Mill's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, River Mill got a massive performance out of Blake Lutterloh, who scored three runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most runs Lutterloh has posted since back in April of 2024. Owen Parrish was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
River Mill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
River Mill pushed their record up to 7-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Chatham Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Chatham Charter has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like River Mill struggles in that department as they've averaged .512. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chatham Charter took their win against River Mill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 21-1 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Jaguars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
