Pottsville is 10-0 against Lehighton since January of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Pottsville Crimson Tide will be home for the holidays to greet the Lehighton Indians at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Pottsville's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests.
Pottsville fought the good fight in their overtime match against Northwestern Lehigh on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 64-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Christian Alvarez, who scored 17 points. The contest was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Letrel Montone, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Lehighton came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 49-37 win over Tamaqua. Given Lehighton's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Tamaqua is ranked 441st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pottsville's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Lehighton, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for Pottsville against Lehighton in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 56-29 win. Does Pottsville have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lehighton turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
