Concord is a perfect 10-0 against Union City since February of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Concord Yellowjackets will take on the Union City Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Concord is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
Concord will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Springport, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Concord came out on top against Springport by a score of 67-54 on Thursday. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Spartans are ranked 369th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Concord's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Grace Thorrez led the charge by going 7-for-13 to rack up 18 points and six boards. Thorrez continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cieara Barrett, who posted 18 points and six assists.
Meanwhile, after only 25 points in their last game, Union City made sure to put some points up on the board against Maple Valley on Tuesday. Union City walked away with a 55-46 victory over Maple Valley. The Chargers haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Union City's win came from a few key players Concord will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ellie Williams, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. That's the most boards she has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nala Payne, who had ten points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Union City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.
Concord's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. As for Union City, their record is now 7-14.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Concord has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Union City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.6 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Concord was able to grind out a solid win over Union City in their previous matchup on February 1st, winning 51-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Concord since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
