Softball Recap: Crete Beats Fairbury for Their Fourth Straight Win

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Crete). Everything went their way against the Fairbury Jeffs on Tuesday as they made off with a 19-6 win. Winning may never get old, but the Cardinals sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.

Crete let Madynn Dunham and Hayley Mattox run wild. Dunham went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double, while Mattox went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Dunham has posted since back in September of 2024. Macy Dunaway also deserves some recognition as she scored her first runs of the season.

Crete was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .560. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .367 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Crete's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Fairbury, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-7.

Looking ahead, Crete will face off against McCook on Thursday. The Bison have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.33 runs per game on average), something the Cardinals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fairbury, they will host Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
