Huron recap September 24, 2013
St. Mary Catholic Central extended the longest winning streak in Huron this week by beating Grosse Ile, 29-8. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Falcons/Kestrels.
Riverview moved up to 175 from 206 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Pirates were able to move up by topping Jefferson 50-12.
Robert Kanitz was the best running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 207 yards as Milan lost to Milan. Trace Lindeman also contributed to the rushing game with 141 yards on the ground.
Kanitz put up the best numbers through the air as the Big Reds beat the Chiefs. He had a total of 8 completions for 126 yards. Kanitz's favorite target this week was Austin Hoover, who caught 2 passes for 49 yards.
Olson was the best receiver in Huron this week as Huron lost to Milan. Olson tallied 4 receptions for 52 yards. Devin Collins helped Huron's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 32 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Andrew Mitroka of the Red Devils is the league leader in passing yards this season with 494. He has also thrown 6 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Gage Smith. The Milan star has 13 catches for 271 yards.
Next week's game between Grosse Ile and Jesse Hoskins' team will feature an aerial matchup as Mitroka tests his arm against Nick Scully's defensive ability.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when St. Mary Catholic Central takes on Airport. As it stands, Jack Giarmo's team is in first, while the Jets are in fifth.
Riverview made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,921 from 5,894. The improvement was the result of 50-12 victory over the Bears last week.
