The team relied heavily on Emmy Chambless, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Saydee Montoya, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Nederland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .818. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, everything went Port Neches-Groves' way against Kingwood Park on Friday as Port Neches-Groves made off with an 11-3 victory. The Indians are also no stranger to big wins: their blowout was the ninth game they've won by 6+ runs this season.
Kalli Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mya Beresford was a standout: she scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiana Ledoux, who scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Port Neches-Groves' win was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Nederland, their record is now 10-1.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Nederland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .458. However, it's not like Port Neches-Groves struggles in that department as they've averaged .388. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Nederland suffered a grim 10-2 defeat to Port Neches-Groves in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Nederland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
