The Schulenburg Shorthorns will head out on the road to challenge the Ganado Indians at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Schulenburg suffered their biggest loss since December 27, 2023 last Friday. They had to suffer through a rough 62-30 loss at the hands of Flatonia. While losing is never fun, Schulenburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1430th, while Flatonia is ranked 350th).
Despite the loss, Schulenburg saw an underclassman step up: Grace Schramek scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Alana Herzik, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Ganado's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 62-19 loss at the hands of Flatonia. Ganado has struggled against Flatonia recently, as their matchup on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Ganado used a three-pronged attack on offense:
Aileen Zavala,
Avery Torres, and
Paisley Hajovsky posted three points each.
Laci Holt held things down on the boards with five rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.
Schulenburg has been struggling recently, as they've lost 18 of their last 21 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-23 record this season. As for Ganado, they bumped their record down to 11-17 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Schulenburg have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 37.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Ganado, though, as they've been averaging only 31.2 rebounds per game. Given Schulenburg's sizeable advantage in that area, Ganado will need to find a way to close that gap.
Schulenburg came up short against Ganado in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 44-37. Can Schulenburg avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
