The Washington-Marion Charging Indians''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a serious blow against DeRidder, falling 49-14. While losing is never fun, Washington-Marion can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 244th, while DeRidder is ranked 107th).
DeRidder got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Connor Rushford out in front who rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Reed Williams was another key contributor, rushing for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries.
DeRidder's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Washington-Marion's QB won't forget Heydin Stephens anytime soon given Stephens sacked him twice.
Washington-Marion's defeat was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which bumped their record down to 1-9. As for DeRidder, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-4.
Washington-Marion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. DeRidder will head out on the road to face off against Lakeshore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lakeshore's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last four matchups.
