Softball Game Preview: Archie Whirlwinds vs. Leeton Bulldogs

The Archie Whirlwinds will head out on the road to face off against the Leeton Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Archie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 11.4 runs per game this season.

Archie made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Jasper, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Whirlwinds blew past the Eagles 14-4 on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Whirlwinds have posted against the Eagles since April 8, 2021.

Kyleigh Wilson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Morgan Mattingley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Danika Gallardo, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI.

Archie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Leeton won against St. Paul Lutheran on Monday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Bulldogs walked away with a 12-9 win over Tipton. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Leeton pushed their record up to 6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Archie, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
