Softball Recap: Kayla Preiss Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Brookfield East

Germantown barely beat Brookfield East the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Warhawks' pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 15-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Warhawks have won six matches by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kylie Otto made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Kayla Preiss was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Madison Werner was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

Germantown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.

Germantown's record now sits at 8-3. As for Brookfield East, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.

Coincidentally, Germantown and Brookfield East will both be playing Menomonee Falls the next time they take the field. The Spartans will host the Phoenix at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Warhawks will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
