Milby is 1-9 against Madison since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Milby Buffs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Madison Marlins at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Monday, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, Milby made off with a 43-42 win over Wisdom. Given Milby's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 552nd, while Wisdom is ranked 1125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Milby got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Darius Owens out in front who scored 12 points along with 3 steals. The matchup was Owens' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Delani Pestaina, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds.
Madison has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 28 points or more this season. They breezed by Austin at home to the tune of 87-46.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Madison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Anthony Avalos, who scored 29 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. The contest was Avalos' third in a row with at least ten points. Joe Whylie was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Milby has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Madison, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's game: Milby have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 7.1 threes per game. It's a different story for Madison, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 per game. Given Milby's sizeable advantage in that area, Madison will need to find a way to close that gap. Milby couldn't quite finish off Madison in their previous meeting back in January and fell 56-54. Can Milby avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
