The Branham Bruins will challenge the Christopher Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Branham will be strutting in after a victory while Christopher will be coming in after a defeat.
Branham not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since September 2nd (when they won 3-0). They put the hurt on Evergreen Valley with a sharp 3-0 win.
While Branham might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Evergreen Valley scored at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 28-26, 25-20.
Branham can attribute much of their success to Kaci Nguyen, who had 19 digs and five assists, and Teagan Cummings, who had six digs and two aces. That's the most aces Cummings has posted over her last 14 matches.
Meanwhile, Christopher didn't have quite enough to beat Ann Sobrato on Thursday and fell 3-2. While the Cougars didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 25-14 in the first set.
Christopher actually scored more points across those five sets (107-93), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 14-25, 28-26, 11-25, 25-20, 15-11.
Branham will have to contain Juliet Tassio as she made an impact in Christopher's last game. She had 13 digs and three aces. Tassio is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Kiely Jantz also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.
Christopher's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for Branham, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season.
Everything went Branham's way against Christopher when the teams last played on September 2nd, as Branham made off with a 3-0 victory. Do the Bruins have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
