Mattanawcook is 3-0 against Sumner since December of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mattanawcook Lynx will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Sumner Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Mattanawcook will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
Last Wednesday, Mattanawcook faced Dexter in a battle between two of the state's top teams. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Mattanawcook made off with a 39-38 win over Dexter. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Mattanawcook has scored all season.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought matchup, but Sumner had to settle for a 41-39 loss against Calais on Wednesday. Sumner has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mattanawcook pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Sumner, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.
Everything went Mattanawcook's way against Sumner in their previous meeting back in February as Mattanawcook made off with a 58-37 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mattanawcook since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
