The Goldthwaite Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tolar Rattlers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Goldthwaite was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 40-35 to San Saba. Goldthwaite gained 238 more yards on the day, but it was San Saba that made the best of use of them.
Despite the defeat, Goldthwaite got a solid performance out of Luke Sanderson, who picked up 94 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in three touchdowns on the ground. Ethan Deeds was another key contributor, throwing for 105 yards and two touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Tolar can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They claimed a resounding 61-6 win over Bangs at home. The win was nothing new for Tolar as they're now sitting on five straight.
It was another big night for Isaac Blessing, who threw for 170 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrison Nation, who rushed for 51 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries.
Goldthwaite has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Tolar, their win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-1.
Goldthwaite took a serious blow against Tolar in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 56-0. Will Goldthwaite have more luck at home instead of on the road?
