The Lawson Lightning will venture away from home to take on the Overton Bobcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lawson has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Overton will arrive with eight straight wins.
Lawson came up short against Creek Wood on Tuesday, falling 11-2.
Lawson got a good showing from Harper Schneiderman, who pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit.
On the hitting side, Lawson saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was C.J. Thornton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, while Overton put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for East Nashville Magnet. Overton blew past East Nashville Magnet 16-0. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Bobcats yet this season.
Ian Carie made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Overton let Jackson Bennett and Miller Bowen run wild. Bennett scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Bowen scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Bowen a new career-high in RBI (three).
Overton's record now sits at 10-1. As for Lawson, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 5-5.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Lawson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lawson couldn't quite get it done against Overton in their previous meeting on Wednesday as they fell 6-1. Can Lawson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
