The Mitchell Tigers entered their tilt with the Kimball Longhorns with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Mitchell escaped with a win on Friday against Kimball by the margin of a single free throw, 48-47. For Mitchell, this counts as revenge for the 53-52 loss Kimball walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
It was another big night for Desmonde Smith, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Waymond Banks, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Kimball lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kyler Lusche. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Lusche has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ryker Behrend, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Mitchell's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Kimball, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.
Mitchell will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Bridgeport at 6:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Bridgeport will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Mitchell surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kimball, they and Morrill will face off at 3:30 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Kimball focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday.
