The Julian Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They took a 43-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Empire. Julian has struggled against Mountain Empire recently, as their game on Thursday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Julian saw an underclassman step up: Pete Vanderstaay scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Kenny Morytko, who scored 7 points.
Corey Vann continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Mountain Empire, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 10 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Vann has scored at least 25% of Mountain Empire's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Sepulveda, who scored 8 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
Julian's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Mountain Empire, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Julian will head out on the road to face off against Horizon Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mountain Empire, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against The Cambridge School at 5:30 p.m. The Cambridge School presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Mountain Empire in California (The Cambridge School is ranked 65th, while Mountain Empire is ranked 394th).
