It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the California Lutheran C-Hawks can now relate to. They were beaten by California School for the Deaf-Riverside 72-26 on Friday. California Lutheran's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Several C-Hawks players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colton McGee, who rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Riccardo Paganelli was another key contributor, picking up 120 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Gio Visco was his usual excellent self, rushing for 246 yards and five touchdowns on only 11 carries. Visco was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 56 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Silvay, who rushed for 94 yards and three touchdowns on only five carries.
Another reason for the win was California School for the Deaf-Riverside's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Visco was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
California Lutheran's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for California School for the Deaf-Riverside, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-3.
California Lutheran does not have any more games scheduled as of now. California School for the Deaf-Riverside will be playing in front of their home fans against Santa Clara at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Santa Clara will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
