Basketball Game Preview: Nucla Mustangs vs. Telluride Miners

Nucla has gone 8-2 against Telluride recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Nucla Mustangs are taking a road trip to challenge the Telluride Miners at 2:00 p.m. Nucla is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

If Nucla beats Telluride with 59 points on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Nucla simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Soroco 59-15. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 41 points or more this season.

Nucla found their leader in sophomore Lantry Galley, who went 9 for 17 on her way to 20 points and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Galley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Viviana Zunich, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Telluride can finally bid farewell to their 12-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They secured a 30-24 W over Caprock Academy.

Telluride's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Nucla, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Everything came up roses for Nucla against Telluride in their previous meeting back in February, as the team secured a 49-12 win. In that game, Nucla amassed a halftime lead of 26-5, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
