Heritage is 9-1 against Space Coast since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Heritage Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Space Coast Vipers at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Heritage's win against Gateway wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Heritage came out on top in a nail-biter against Gateway on Friday, sneaking past 3-1. The victory continues a trend for Heritage in their matchups with Gateway: they've now won four in a row.
Andrew Francisco was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Adrial Diaz Lopez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Space Coast made sure to put some runs up on the board against Cocoa on Thursday. Space Coast put the hurt on Cocoa with a sharp 23-1 win. The Vipers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by 17 runs or more this season.
Kole Gamble made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-low in hits. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayden Thomas, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. He has become a key player for Space Coast: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of EJ Clouser, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Space Coast kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 11.4.
The victory got Space Coast back to even at 5-5. As for Heritage, their record now sits at 7-5.
Heritage beat Space Coast 13-10 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Heritage since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
