Lowell Catholic (Lowell, Mass.) jumped out to an early lead against Matignon (Cambridge, Mass.) and never looked back on the way to a 47-8 victory on Saturday.
The Crusaders scored 20 points in the first quarter. Lowell Catholic scored on a
Adam Wentzel touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Chris Tamukedde and a Wentzel touchdown run.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Wentzel in the first quarter, LC led 28-8 at the half.
The Lowell school expanded its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. The Crusaders scored two times in the third, including once on a touchdown run by
Chris Regan.
Lowell Catholic's most effective player was Wentzel. The senior quarterback threw one touchdown and ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 15 touchdowns on the season.
The Warriors' lone touchdown came on a 3-yard run in the second quarter.
LC came into the game allowing 9.2 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Matignon took, 50-19.
The victory was a step in the right direction for the Crusaders, which was coming off a 24-16 defeat at the hands of Cathedral in its previous game.
Lowell Catholic (9-1) will play a Catholic Central - Small game against Pope John XXIII next week, while Matignon (2-7) will take on Pope John Paul II also in a Catholic Central - Small game.
