Baseball Recap: University Prep Drops Highest Score of Season Against Granite Falls

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University Prep). Everything went their way against the Granite Falls Tigers on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-6 win. Considering the Pumas have won three matchups by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Owen Bradley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of University Prep's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Grady Stone and Wade Suess did most of the damage at the plate: Stone scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Suess scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Cole Simon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

The victory made it two in a row for University Prep and bumps their season record up to 3-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Granite Falls, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University Prep will head out to square off against Vashon Island at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Granite Falls, they will venture away from home to challenge Nooksack Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Tigers are facing the Pioneers at the right time seeing as the Pioneers are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
