The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sam Rayburn in their matchups with Pasadena Memorial: they've now lost seven in a row.
Sam Rayburn's loss came despite strong showings from Kimari Mikell and Kaylee Montelongo. Mikell dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Montelongo scored six points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of BreAnn Figgs, who scored two points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pasadena Memorial to victory, but perhaps none more so than Gwendlyn Mcgrew, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and eight assists. That's the first time this season that Mcgrew posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Natalie Pineda, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Sam Rayburn's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-14. As for Pasadena Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season.
Sam Rayburn will head out on the road to square off against Channelview at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Channelview has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Pasadena Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against South Houston at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Houston will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1248th, while Pasadena Memorial is ranked 478th).
