DELTA, Colo. - After swapping the lead four times,
Silver Creek (Longmont, Colo.) took the lead for the win when they ran for a touchdown in the third quarter, paving the way for victory over
Delta (Colo.) 28-17.
After trailing 14-10 at the half, the Panthers went ahead on a touchdown pass by
Cade Gafford to
Ryan Whiteside with 9:00 remaining in the third.
Each side put up seven points during the third quarter, and at the beginning of the fourth it was still a four point game.
With the win Silver Creek extended its winning streak to five games. Silver Creek defeated Pueblo East 34-14 last week.
SC came in allowing an average of 18.1 points per game this season. The defense really stepped up, holding Delta well below its season average of 34.0 points scored per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Delta, which notched a 13-9 victory over Glenwood Springs in its previous outing. The loss snapped Delta's three-game winning streak.
Delta (9-4) will play a playoff game against Silver Creek next week, while Silver Creek (10-2) will take on Delta also in a playoff game.
