Sage Creek is 2-8 against Carlsbad since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Bobcats will face off against the Lancers at 4:00 p.m.
On Tuesday, Sage Creek came up short against La Costa Canyon and fell 7-4.
Lola Carson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Torii Ramirez, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Carlsbad came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Longhorns. Surprisingly, this marked the Lancers' seventh straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Sofia Tillis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits and racked up six Ks. Those six strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Emerson Jarrard was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one home run.
Carlsbad pushed their record up to 8-13 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sage Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sage Creek hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Carlsbad struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sage Creek took their victory against Carlsbad in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 8-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
