The Lehigh Lightning stacked a fifth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Mariner 60-13 at home. Given Lehigh's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Mariner is ranked 548th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lehigh found their leader in underclassman Rianne Smith, who scored 25 points along with six steals and five assists. Smith hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sanaa Geter, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Lehigh is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Mariner, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lehigh will face off against Gateway Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway Charter will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Mariner will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Cape Coral at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th.
