The Desert Mountain Wolves will face off against the Saguaro Sabercats at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Desert Mountain will be looking to extend their current 16-game winning streak.
While Desert Mountain's victory against Willow Canyon wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wolves never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 2-0 win on Thursday.
Lilly 'Goose' Goodwin was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McKinsey Beyer, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Saguaro had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Arcadia on Thursday, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Sabercats have posted since March 18th.
Sadie Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits.
At the plate, Saguaro saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Malina Morones, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Hailey Holliday was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Desert Mountain pushed their record up to 19-1-1 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Saguaro, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.
Saguaro's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Desert Mountain has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Saguaro, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 strikeouts. Will Desert Mountain keep running through batters, or will the Sabercats buck the trend?
Desert Mountain took their victory against Saguaro in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Sabercats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
