Giddings extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 12-14-1. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Bellville Brahmas. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Brahmas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-7 on Tuesday.
Jayla Llanas and Natalee Wright did some serious damage despite the final result: Llanas went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Wright went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Jenna Jewell was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Bellville, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.
On Bellville's side, Ella Burnett made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Burnett was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Paisley Dierking was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Caylee Flores, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Giddings is set to square off against their familiar foe Caldwell at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bellville will challenge rival Smithville at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
