The Adams City Eagles pushed their score all the way to 67 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 76-67 to Westminster. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Adams City in their matchups with Westminster: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the loss, Adams City had strong showings from Kevin Casillas, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, and Zak Ahmed, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Casillas has scored all season. Jalen Mckinnies was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Adams City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Daigan Gray, who scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks for Westminster. That's the first time this season that Gray posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Elias Garcia, who scored 16 points.
Adams City has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season. As for Westminster, their win bumped their record up to 2-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Adams City won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Kennedy at 7:00 p.m. on January 5th. Kennedy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.1 points per game. As for Westminster, they will head out on the road to challenge Northfield at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine contests -- so hopefully Westminster likes a good challenge.
