The El Campo Ricebirds were the 62-17 winner over the Iowa Colony Pioneers when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. El Campo took a 35-17 bruising from Iowa Colony on Friday. While losing is never fun, El Campo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 370th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 145th).
Despite the loss, El Campo still got an impressive performance from Ja?Kwuan Hudlin, who rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns. Hudlin's longest rush was for an incredible 83 yards.
Iowa Colony can attribute much of their success to Carson White, who threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Chandler Love made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
El Campo are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Iowa Colony, Needville, and Bay City. As for Iowa Colony, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
El Campo will be playing at home against Stafford at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Iowa Colony, they will head out on the road to face off against Bay City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bay City is on a four-game streak of home wins, Iowa Colony a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
