Basketball Game Preview: Caney Creek Panthers vs. Grand Oaks Grizzlies

Caney Creek hasn't had much luck against Grand Oaks recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Caney Creek Panthers are taking a road trip to square off against the Grand Oaks Grizzlies at 12:30 p.m.

Caney Creek is headed into the match having just suffered their closest defeat since December 6, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Oak Ridge by a score of 46-43. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Yeiry Zamudio, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 15 points. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Harrah, who posted eight points in addition to 13 rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Caney Creek was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Grand Oaks entered their tilt with Willis on Wednesday with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. They claimed a resounding 75-21 victory over the Wildkats. The Grizzlies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 contests by 21 points or more this season.

Grand Oaks is on a roll lately: they've won 17 of their last 18 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.1 points per game. As for Caney Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 5-16.

Caney Creek was taken down by Grand Oaks 59-21 in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Grand Oaks' Bree Riley, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 steals.
