3A South Puget Sound recap November 13, 2013
Peninsula added to the longest winning streak in 3A South Puget Sound this week by beating Chief Sealth, 55-7. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Seahawks.
Auburn Mountainview scaled the state rankings by moving to 141 from 178 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Lions climbed the ranks as a result of topping Clover Park 54-6.
Auburn Mountainview's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Gresch Jensen threw for 154 and 4 touchdowns and Joey Cassano had 63 yards receiving. On the ground Ray Hardaway chipped in 149 yards. Hardaway helped Auburn Mountainview's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 50 yards.
Nick Webster was a passing and rushing force as Lakes defeated Hale. He completed 13 passes for 181 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 81 yards. Webster's key target this week was Kemonee Jenkins, who caught 5 passes for 56 yards.
Jason Sele made the biggest impact on defense this week as Jared Gervis' team beat the Warriors. The 6-foot-1 junior racked up 1 sack.
He went 9-14 with 1 interception.
Cassano was the best receiver in the league this week as the Lions defeated Clover Park. Cassano tallied 3 receptions for 63 yards. Hardaway helped Auburn Mountainview's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 50 yards.
Auburn Mountainview's Jensen and Cassano led 3A South Puget Sound in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Jensen has thrown for 2,306 yards this season, while Cassano has 80 catches for 1,274 yards. Cameron Strecker from Enumclaw leads the league in rushing with 715 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Peninsula takes on Bonney Lake. At the moment, Ross Filkins' team is in first, while the Panthers are in third.
The Lancers took down the Raiders 59-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Webster ran for 81 yards during the win.
