The Byers Bulldogs's game last Tuesday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 39-38 photo finish over Genoa-Hugo/Karval. For Byers, this counts as revenge for the 33-27 defeat Genoa-Hugo/Karval walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Genoa-Hugo/Karval's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rhegan Sitzman, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Kazlei Vaughn was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds.
Byers' victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Byers won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Dolores Huerta Prep at 3:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Dolores Huerta Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Wednesday. Genoa-Hugo/Karval won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Merino at 2:00 p.m. on January 13th. Merino is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
