Cade Huseth made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Veritas Prep is 2-1 when Huseth allows two or fewer hits, but 3-4 otherwise. Huseth was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Tico Lentz was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Logan Cortes, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Veritas Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Horizon Honors, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Tempe Prep a 15-0 shutout on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
Aidan Andrews was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chase Wilson, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Max Miller was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Horizon Honors pushed their record up to 9-4-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Veritas Prep, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Veritas Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Horizon Honors struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Veritas Prep might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Horizon Honors in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
