Andrew Gonzales was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Cimarron is 5-2 when Gonzales posts two or more runs, but 0-3 otherwise.
In other batting news, Orion Ledoux was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Carlos Coca also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Magdalena made easy work of Logan on Friday and carried off a 15-2 victory. The Steers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by six runs or more this season.
Like Cimarron, Magdalena also got a great game from a two-way player: Shane Montoya. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts Montoya has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Magdalena got a massive performance out of Ayden Herschbach, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Joseph Zamora, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.
Magdalena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Magdalena's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Cimarron, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cimarron hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. However, it's not like Magdalena struggles in that department as they've averaged .383. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
