Hilliard Davidson has gone 7-1 against Westerville North recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Warriors at 11:00 a.m.
Hilliard Davidson couldn't beat Olentangy Orange on Friday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Wildcats fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Hilliard Davidson saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Printz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Westerville North, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top against Big Walnut by a score of 6-3 on Friday.
Ethan Robinson was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Westerville North's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 5-1 (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Robinson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caleb Williams was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Austin Heminger was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Westerville North hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.
Hilliard Davidson has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Westerville North, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hilliard Davidson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Westerville North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Hilliard Davidson's way against Westerville North when the teams last played back in April of 2023, as Hilliard Davidson made off with an 11-2 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
