Ralston Valley (Arvada, Colo.) grabbed the lead when
Andrew Wingard ran for a touchdown with less than a minute remaining in the fifth quarter and held on to upset
Pomona (Arvada, Colo.) 22-20 on Saturday. The score was the final lead change in a back-and-forth contest that featured two lead swaps.
The teams went into the locker room at halftime deadlocked at seven. The Mustangs took the lead for good on a touchdown run by Wingard in the fifth quarter.
Chris Marquez played well for the Panthers. He ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 18 on the year.
Ralston Valley's most effective player was
Jacob Knipp. The junior quarterback ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored four touchdowns on the season.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which Pomona took, 28-0.
The defeat comes as a step back for Pomona, which notched a 42-22 victory over Columbine in its previous outing.
