The Highland Rams will face off against the Giles Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Highland has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Highland is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Narrows just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost 12-2 to the Green Waves. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rams have suffered since March 26th.
Highland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evan Kimble, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Giles hadn't done well against Fort Chiswell recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Spartans had just enough and edged out the Pioneers 10-8. The game was the first time the Spartans have beaten the Pioneers on their field since April 29, 2022.
Miles Eppling was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Giles is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-12-1 otherwise. Eppling was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Braxton Clark was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Giles is undefeated when Clark posts two or more runs, but 4-13-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacob Mills, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Highland's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Giles, their victory bumped their record up to 7-13-1.
Giles' pitching crew better be locked in on Wednesday. Highland hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game.
