Marshall is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Robinson Maroons at 4:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Marshall 3.5, Robinson 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Marshall came up short against Terre Haute North Vigo and fell 9-6.
Marshall saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Haley McGuire, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Another was Ella Mattas, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Robinson got themselves on the board against Northview on Saturday, but Northview never followed suit. They skirted past the Knights 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Maroons have posted since March 20th.
Not much got past Eva Herman, who gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks to keep Northview off the board. Herman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mallory Mosbey was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Robinson, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Marshall has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Robinson struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.1 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Marshall skirted past Robinson 4-3 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
