Video: Quinn Ewers highlights The Sophomore Player of the Year had a huge season for Southlake Carroll.
There were a handful of players in consideration for the MaxPreps Sophomore Player of the Year but the honor goes to Southlake Carroll's (Texas) Quinn Ewers. He put up big-time numbers against some of the best high school football teams in the Lone Star State.
Ewers threw for over 4,000 yards and had 45 touchdowns against three interceptions. He also completed over 72 percent of his passes and rushed for nearly 600 yards and nine more scores while leading the Dragons to a Top 25 finish.
He's one of 11 players from Texas featured on the Sophomore All-American team which leads the way. California and Georgia are tied for the second most selections with eight each and Florida is next up with seven.
In total 21 different states are represented and St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.), Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Md.), IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and Servite (Anaheim, Calif.) are the only schools with multiple selections.

First Team Offense
Makes it back-to-back Texas players to be named Sophomore of the Year, joining 2018 winner Dematrius Davis Jr. of North Shore (Houston).
Last year's Freshman of the Year had another big season throwing for nearly 3,500 yards and 43 touchdowns while adding over 1,100 yards on the ground and 19 more scores.
Played a huge role for the runner-ups in Georgia's largest classification. Threw for 1,300-plus yards and 10 touchdowns while rushing for over 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns for the No. 13 team in the country.
One of the most talented players in the Class of 2022. A big-time playmaker at running back, wide receiver, in the secondary and on special teams.

The No. 1 rated wide receiver in the Class of 2022 had nearly 1,000 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.
The AAA Large Conference Offensive Player of the Year had 76 catches for over 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns.
His 1,949 yards receiving were tops among sophomores and good for the No. 5 spot nationally. Helped Rochester to the 5A state title. Ended the year with 99 receptions and 25 touchdowns to go with nearly 500 yards rushing and seven more scores.
Was 2021 Michigan commit J.J. McCarthy's favorite target. Accounted for over 1,700 total yards of offense and 24 touchdowns.

One of the best offensive lineman in the country regardless of class. Helped form one of the game's top offensive lines and played a major role for the 7A state champions and a 15-0 Raiders squad.
Has been a starter on the offensive line since his freshman season and is one of the best linemen from Texas regardless of class.
Made a big-time impact on the offensive line for the No. 1 team in country.
The No. 1 rated offensive tackle from the Peach State is one of the most well-rounded linemen in the country.
The 2022 LSU commit was a playmaker at quarterback and one of the hardest hitting safeties in the country.
The younger brother of Clemson's Travis Etienne had a huge year accounting for nearly 2,500 total yards and 37 touchdowns.
Was named to the Texas all-state First Team and earns a spot on the Sophomore team after connecting on 15-of-16 field goals.
First Team Defense
One of the top rated sophomores ended the year with 151 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 11 sacks.
Was a huge piece on defense for the No. 1 team in the country. Racked up 58 tackles and 6.5 sacks playing against the best competition. Had a huge interception against Bryce Young and Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) that led to a 39-34 win in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship.
Led Thompson to its first state title since 1982, finishing with 119 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, nine sacks, two interceptions and forced two fumbles.
The top rated linebacker in the Class of 2022 showed why during his sophomore season. Flies around the field and is one of the best all-around defensive players in the country.
Lined up on the edge a lot in 2019 and finished the season with 129 tackles, 39 tackles for loss and 19 sacks. Also had an interception and blocked two punts.
Was a key piece on defense for one of the top teams in the Lone Star State. Helped lead the Tigers to a spot at No. 15 in the final Top 25 rankings.
Showed he was ready for the spotlight. Was one of the best players on defense for the state champs in Texas' largest classification.

Threw for nearly 3,000 yards and had 37 touchdowns against four interceptions playing in the toughest league in the country.

The talented sophomore showed why he's one of the top players in the Class of 2022. Has already landed 20-plus FBS offers and his tape is as impressive as any other quarterback.
Threw for over 4,200 yards and 53 touchdowns in 2019.
QB — Zion Turner, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), 6-1, 185 Won the starting quarterback job before the season and played a key role for the 7A state champs. Threw for over 1,700 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding another 400-plus yards on the ground and 12 more scores.
Rushed for over 1,000 yards and 16 touchdowns for the No. 8 team in the country.
The leading rusher for one of the best teams in high school football. Ended his sophomore season with 1,185 yards and expect an even bigger junior campaign when the backfield gets less crowded.
The No. 2 rated running back in the Class of 2022 rushed for over 1,700 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2019.

Second Team Defense
Racked up a team high 12.5 sacks for the 4A state champs to go with 64 tackles and 23 tackles for loss.
Was a huge playmaker coming off the edge for the runner-ups in 6A Division 1.
Had 110 tackles, 23 tackles for loss and 24 sacks in 2019.
The talented edge rusher from South Florida ended his sophomore season with 77 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks.
The No. 1 rated defensive tackle in the Class of 2022 made a huge impact in the trenches for the 4A state champs.
Was a First Team selection on the All-WCAC team which is one of the toughest conferences in the country.

Lined up everywhere during his sophomore season and played at a high level. One of the hardest hitters in the Class of 2022.
Played a huge role for the 5A Division 2 state champs. Had a team high 122 tackles and three interceptions.
The 2022 LSU commit is the top rated cornerback among sophomores and checks all the boxes. Has great feet, instincts, very physical and has good hands. Ended the year with 46 tackles and four interceptions.
The No. 1 rated athlete in the Class of 2022 had three interceptions and over 500 yards receiving during his sophomore campaign.
One of the most dynamic players in the Class of 2022. Had 57 tackles, seven interceptions and over 1,000 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns.
