Even though the Sandhills/Thedford Knights have not done well against the North Central Knights recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Sandhills/Thedford took down North Central 55-37. Given Sandhills/Thedford's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 36th, while North Central is ranked 179th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
When it comes to explaining why North Central lost, one person who can't be blamed is Mason Hagan. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with five rebounds. Those five rebounds set a new season-high mark for Hagan. Trey Anthony was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, North Central were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
The win for Sandhills/Thedford keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.3 points per game. As for North Central, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandhills/Thedford will take on Arthur County at TBD on Thursday. Arthur County is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for North Central, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Burke at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
