Alamo Heights was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after a string of eight wins, Southwest's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of McCollum by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Dragons have suffered since April 19, 2024.
Alex Rico was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk).
On the hitting side, Southwest saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julleus Castillo, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Southwest's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 11-3-1. As for Alamo Heights, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11-1.
