Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Grace Lancers, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They lost to Miller at home by a decisive 65-50 margin on Friday. It was the first time this season that Grace let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Grace lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ethan Lasecla. Despite the final result, he threw for 367 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Cooper, who picked up 177 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Miller had a senior duo take command as Eric Copeland rushed for 247 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per carry and Jesus Rasura rushed for 231 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.2 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Sepulveda, who rushed for 58 yards and a touchdown.
Another reason for the win was Miller's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Jared Brieske and Copeland who racked up six sacks between them.
Grace's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Miller, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-4.
Grace does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Miller will be playing at home against San Bernardino at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (San Bernardino is ranked 722nd, while Miller is ranked 721st).
