DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) snapped the four-game winning streak of
Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.), with a 31-21 victory on Saturday.
The Eagles pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Reggie Corbin, and subsequently went into halftime leading 21-14. The Stags took the lead to win the game on a field goal by
Derrick Graham in the third quarter.
With the win DeMatha extended its winning streak to six games. DeMatha defeated Bishop McNamara 61-27 last week.
DeMatha's standout player in the win was
Taiwan Deal. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Gonzaga came in surrendering 17.9 points per game this season. GHS struggled against DeMatha's offense, which entered the game scoring 13.5 points per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Gonzaga, which notched a 31-0 victory over Bishop O'Connell in its previous outing.
DeMatha (8-1) goes up against Archbishop Carroll in a Washington Catholic game matchup next week, while Gonzaga (5-3) locks horns with Bishop McNamara also in a Washington Catholic game.
