It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Maconaquah Braves can now relate to. They took a 28-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hamilton Heights on Friday. The game was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but Maconaquah was outscored by Hamilton Heights in the second.
Maconaquah's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Braxton Birner, who threw for 288 yards and three touchdowns. AJ Kelly was another key contributor, picking up 118 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Owen VanHaaren was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Another big playmaker for Hamilton Heights was Carson Fettig, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Hamilton Heights' defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Michael Cain and his three sacks.
Maconaquah's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Hamilton Heights, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-1.
Maconaquah does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Hamilton Heights will be playing in front of their home fans against Indianapolis Bishop Chatard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Indianapolis Bishop Chatard is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
