Softball Recap: Paint Valley Comes Up Short

Paint Valley had lost three straight at home, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 5-11 to make it four. They lost 16-4 to the Westfall Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on April 9th.

Sophia Stauffer made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Carlee Spurlock also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

As for Westfall, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games.

On Westfall's side, Adrina Hicks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hicks was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jill Butcher and Joni Snyder did most of the damage at the plate: Butcher went 2-for-5 with three runs and one RBI, while Snyder went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most runs Butcher has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Sydney Fuller, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Paint Valley will take on Vinton County at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bearcats are facing the Vikings at the right time seeing as the Vikings are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Westfall, they will head out to square off against Waverly at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs will also cruise into their next game with the timing on their side: the Tigers will have lost four straight heading into Tuesday's match.
